[My Honest ESL Experience] From Day-One Chaos to Discovering My English Level
カリフォルニアに来てから、せっかくだし英語をちゃんと勉強しようと思い立ち、ESLのオンラインレッスンを受け始めました！今回はその体験談を正直に書いていきます。
Since moving to California, I decided it was finally time to seriously study English — so I started taking ESL online lessons! Here's my honest experience.
🎓 そもそもESLって何？/ What is ESL?
ESL（English as a Second Language）とは、英語を母国語としない人向けに提供される英語学習プログラムのことです。
ESL (English as a Second Language) is an English learning program designed for non-native English speakers.
- 無料で受講できる(学校による) / Free of charge(depend on the school)
- オンラインで受講可能 / Available online
- レベル別クラスあり / Level-based classes available
- 宿題・課題あり / Homework and assignments included
😱 初日にハプニング発生！/ Day One: Total Chaos
気合い入れて初日を迎えたのに……まさかのシステムエラー。
I was so pumped for my first day... and then, of course, a system error happened.
"The Zoom URL is nowhere to be found!!!"
1時間前から血眼になって探したけど、どこにもURLが見当たらない（笑）。結局その日は授業に入れず……。後日、先生に直接送付してもらい、無事に入室できました！なんとかなるもんですね。
I frantically searched everywhere from the very first period, but the URL was simply nowhere to be found (lol). I ended up missing class that day... but later, the teacher sent it to me directly and I was finally able to join! Things have a way of working out.
🤔 そもそもクラス分けテストを受けていなかった件 / Wait... I Never Took a Placement Test
実は、学校からクラス分けテストを受けるよう指示がなかったので、とりあえず初級Lowを選択してみたんです。
The thing is, my school never told me to take a placement test, so I just picked Beginner Low and hoped for the best.
"I definitely picked the wrong class..."
授業の内容が簡単すぎて、即座に確信しました（笑）。これは初級じゃないなと。
The class content was way too easy, and I knew immediately (lol). This was definitely not my level.
📊 自分の英語力を知るためにテストを受けてみた！/ Testing My Own English Level
「じゃあ自分の本当のレベルは？」と思い、EF SET 英語テストを受けてみました。
So I wondered, "What's my actual level?" and decided to take the EF SET English Test.

📚 授業の流れ / How Classes Work
まだ履修登録中ですが、今のところわかっている授業の流れはこんな感じです。
I'm still in the enrollment process, but here's what I know about how classes run so far.
Zoom breakout rooms where the teacher gives questions based on the material and students discuss answers together.
Multiple assignments per week, submitted through the online system.
✍️ まとめ / Wrap-Up
最初は「どんな感じか知りたい」という気持ちでオンラインレッスンにしましたが、システムは使いやすく、事務局のレスポンスも早いのでなんとかなっています。
I chose online lessons mainly to get a feel for how things work, and honestly, the system is user-friendly and the office responds quickly, so it's been manageable.
ただ、実際に教室に行って会話してみるのもありだなと思ってきたので、次の履修は教室レッスンにしようかなと考えています＾＾
That said, I've started thinking it might be good to actually go to a classroom and practice speaking, so I'm considering switching to in-person classes for my next enrollment.＾＾
